BUG Reports

There is a bug in the tracking routines.

It is related to leap years. After 2/29 everything started working fine once again. I'm still looking into this but I haven't discovered just exactly why it's occurring. But, for now the program is back on track.

Bugs will inevitably be discovered. So, report it when you are "lucky enough" to be the one to find it!

I and other users will appreciate it!

Installation

Current Version 1.5.9
19-August-2003

For ALL Upgrading Users - Read the Following Paragraphs!!!

Version 1.5.4 and above require new runtime files available from Microsoft at the provided link below.

Version 1.3.3 incorporated new controls which required new VB runtime files. Download the VB6 Service Pack 5 Run time files from the link below and install them.

If you have downloaded the full installation of Version 1.5.4 or later, then you need only download the "Lite" version to update.

Previously I recommended an uninstall of a previous version prior to installing the "full installation file". It appears this isn't really necessary. Just make sure to carefully read the messages during installation. Often, you may have newer versions of DLLs than those being installed by EM. KEEP your newer versions. They should work fine with Element Manager and they are NECESSARY to some other program that installed them.

If you decide to take the cautious route then, on the windows desktop, click Start/Settings/Control Panel. Select Add/Remove Programs and select Element Manager from the programs to remove. Element Manager and all of its associated files will be deleted. Don't remove any Shared files. The "weleman.ini" file will be removed. If you wish to preserve this file, copy (DO NOT MOVE or Uninstall will fail) it to another directory. Once you've done all this, run the setup program. The new version of Element Manager will be installed. If you have any subdirectories under the /Program Files/Element Manager folder (or where ever you've installed Element Manager) these folders and their contents will be retained through this process. So, if you have *.prm, *.sel, or element files they will not be removed. When you reinstall Element manager, copy the "weleman.ini" file back to the program directory, and start Element Manager, all these files and folders should still be active and available.

Starting with version 1.3.9 of the program, weleman.ini is NOT distributed in the full or lite files. This means you can ignore the instructions for preservation of this file if you are uninstalling version 1.3.9 or later.

Download Weleman159.zip this file size is around 2.7 Meg
This is the primary file.  It contains all of files to install and run
Element Manager  for Windows properly on your machine. That is, providing you already have Visual Basic Version 6.0 service Pack 5 runtime files (see below).

Download the zip file, place it in an empty directory (actually any directory but an empty one will be easier to clean up after you're finished with the install file). Unzip it and then execute the Setup.exe program. This will install Element Manager for Windows in the "c:\Program Files\Element Manager" subdirectory (you can select a different directory if you wish) and install a couple of activeX modules (.OCX) and DLLs to the windows system directory. If you want to be rid of Element Manager, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add,Remove Programs and click on Element Manager to remove the program. If prompted about leaving shared files on your machine, I'd recommend you leave them. They may be used by other VB programs you have. They might also be related to some IE 4/5 component. They don't take up too much space, and you will probably need them for some future program you download. All program files I create for Element Manager are NOT Shared, so they will all be removed.

If this is your FIRST use of EM, go immediately to the Setup Screen and set any values you want to load each time the program runs and save a weleman.ini file. Otherwise, each time you run the program you will get that No INI file reminder.

Download Wele159Lite.zip this file is around  834KB
If you have previously downloaded a full installation file, version 1.3.3 or later they you may upgrade by downloading this "Lite" file. There is a readme.txt file contained in the file that will automatically load IF there is significant news regarding the latest version. The Tip of the Day file is included if it has been changed So, unzip all files to your Element Manager folder.

Download wele160beta3.zip
Occasionally I will post an interim release. If so, it's linked above. This is NOT a new finished version, just a version of the program with some quick fix or a beta of a new feature and it is usually posted for the benefit of a single user.

Visual Basic Run Time Files
If you don't have the Visual Basic V 6.0 runtime files then download a copy of Vbrun60sp6.exe

Help!!!

Well there is a help file in the program, but it is now HOPELESSLY out of date. I'm getting ready to take the plunge and remove it. My recommendation for help, come here to these web pages and click on the links to the left to take you to the overview of each feature of the program. There is a link to these pages within Element Manager under "Internet Browser" on the main screen.

If anyone knows of a really GREAT help creation utility send me information. I might redo the help sections if I can find a tool that is sufficiently user friendly while economically within reach.

Note 1: The code used to locate satellites and plot their ground tracks was developed using James Miller's, G3RUH, plan13.bas. Check out his website at AMSAT for further information on his many contributions to the Amateur Satellite User community. PLAN13.BAS is available there for download.
